*A reminder to members of the Northside Marching Band: There will be rehearsal tonight (Thursday) at JFKennedy Middle School from 6 pm to 8 pm. Remember to bring your music, instrument, drumsticks, and flags!  If you need directions to JFK Middle School, please see Mrs. VanKley in room 155.

*CROSS COUNTRY – Are you interested in meeting new people?  Would you like to get in shape for basketball season? You can still join the Ira Jones Cross Country Team!  See Mr. Marten in room 222, Mrs. Ready in room 203, or Mr. Arntzen in the gym.

*STUDENT AMBASSADORS – Be a leader at Ira Jones by becoming a Student Ambassador.  To qualify you must *fill out the required application, *maintain good grades, and *be a good role model.  A social worker will visit one of your classes and hand out applications.  Additional applications are available in the main office.  Applications are due September 10th.

*AFTERSCHOOL STARS – Do you need some extra help with that science project, or are you having a hard time keeping up with your studies?  Then Afterschool STARS is for you.  Afterschool STARS gives you the opportunity to stay afterschool from 2:40 to 3:30 and get the extra help you need.  6th graders will meet in the Media Center, 7th graders will meet in the cafeteria, and 8th graders will meet in room 162.  STARS will run throughout the school year Monday through Thursday.  If you are interested, please fill out a yellow Student STARS pass, located in your classroom or the Main Office, and present it to the teacher assigned to your location.  We hope to see you there.

*STUDENT COUNCIL – If you are interested in joining Student Council, your permission slips are due to Mrs. Sester by today, August 31st.  We encourage students to get those turned in ASAP.  There will be a mandatory meeting on Friday, September 3rd, in room 108 for students running for office (President, Secretary, Treasurer, School Spirit, and Publicity).  This meeting will teach you about how to campaign.  Stop by Mrs. Nickel’s room 102 if you have any questions.

*Box Tops for Education - Help Build Our New Outdoor Classroom!

Our Ira Jones Environmental Club is collecting Box Tops for Education for an outdoor classroom.  Please save your box tops for us!  Your student(s) can bring box tops to any teacher, or they can be dropped off at the Main Office. Our school has the potential to earn a lot of money by collecting box tops.  The proceeds will be put towards a new outdoor education classroom that will benefit all students as they enjoy their classes in the great outdoors.

* Eagles Ridin’ Right – How would you like to earn the opportunity to win VIP treatment for your bus?  You can earn the right for your bus to have VIP drop-off in front of the main entrance in the morning and VIP pick up in the afternoon.  All you have to do is show your social skills while on the bus.  Busses can earn Eagles Ridin’ Right tickets from their bus drivers if they exhibit good social skills on the bus ride to and from school.  The bus with the most tickets by the first Thursday of each month will win one week of VIP treatment.  Buses of students will only earn tickets if the whole bus exhibits good social skills.  So, let the competition begin!
