**Ira Jones Battle of the Books**

Battle of the Books continues! Round 4 for the third annual Ira Jones Battle of the Books takes place this afternoon. One round of competition takes place each day of the week, culminating in the championship round on Friday, March 19th.  This year 42 teams joined the competition.  The winning team will compete in the district competition on Thursday, April 8th. The Literacy Committee would like to thank all the Language Arts teachers for promoting the competition and coaching the students.  We are especially proud of the 188 students who have put in the hard work necessary to become “experts” on the novels chosen for the competition.  Good Luck to All!

*MATH-A-THON - Please support our Math-A-Thon at Ira Jones. Math-A-Thon is a fundraising program for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Math-A-Thon is a way our students can practice their math skills while raising money to help sick kids.  The benefits of Math-A-Thon all add up to help a good cause. Students who participate improve math and comprehension skills, solve age-appropriate math problems, and understand the importance of helping others. This all equals help for St. Jude patients battling cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. Please encourage your student(s) participate in our Math-A-Thon. This is how it works: 1) Students return the signed permission/consent form to the coordinator. 2) Students obtain sponsors, and then complete their Funbook by solving a variety of math problems. 3) After completing the problems, students collect donations from their sponsors and return them to their coordinator. 4) Students and schools earn prizes depending on total funds collected.
