| April 21, 2010 Seven District 202 students selected as semi-finalists in Illinois Fatherhood Initiative Essay Contest Seven District 202 students are among 156 semi-finalists in the 2010 Illinois Fatherhood Initiative (IFI) Chicago White Sox Fatherhood Essay Contest. The students each wrote essays explaining "What My Father Means to Me," about the impact that their father, grandfather, stepfather or father figure has had in their lives. Over 18,000 students from across the state entered essays in this year's contest. Of those, 156 semi-finalists were chosen. The semi-finalists included: Plainfield East High School sophomore Ciara Deal; Aux Sable Middle School sixth graders Alyssa Neyland and Ashley Medina; Ira Jones Middle School eighth graders Georgia Lipari and Jonathan Sanders; Charles Reed Elementary School fifth grader Kylee Green; and Freedom Elementary School kindergarten student Lauren Walczak. All of the semi-finalists and their guests will be honored at the "IFI Faces of Fatherhood Picnic" on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at U.S. Cellular Field where they will be honored before the Chicago White Sox take on the Florida Marlins. The IFI will select 12 finalists as the 2010 Father Figures of the Year. The finalists will be honored at the IFI Fatherhood Dinner around Father's Day. |
