Community invited to contribute to Heritage Grove shoe drive
Community members are encouraged to donate their used shoes to the Heritage Grove annual Tennis Shoe Collection Drive.
The Heritage Grove sixth grade "Team C" students are organizing this year's drive, which will run through May 3, 2010.
Anyone with used shoes is encouraged to drop off their donations in one of the donation boxes inside the vestibule at the front of the school.
Donations will be accepted during the week between 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Heritage Grove is located at 12425 South Van Dyke Road, Plainfield.
The students will sort the donated shoes into two groups. Shoes in good condition will be donated to the Morning Star Mission in Joliet. The Mission will then separate the shoes and donate them locally to people in need.
Unpaired or heavily used shoes will be brought to the Will County-Joliet Recycling Drop-off Center in Joliet. The shoes will be recycled to make products like running tracks, playground padding and roofing.
