District 202 student sign winners remind drivers of traffic safety

Signs designed by students, warning drivers to buckle up, will soon be visible entering and exiting the campuses of several District 202 middle schools.

District 202 once again partnered with the Plainfield Police Department, First Community Bank of Plainfield and Plainfield Signs to host the second annual "buckle up reminder sign contest."

This year's contest challenged students at all four of the middle schools located in the Village of Plainfield to create a design that could eventually become a sign warning drivers to drive safely and use their seatbelts.

Student designs had to be drawn in their school colors and include the school name or school initials. The students had just over a month to work on and submit their designs.

These students' works were chosen and will be displayed outside of their respective middle schools:

• Heritage Grove sixth grader Haley Wolfe;
• Indian Trail seventh grader Emily Witkowski;
• Ira Jones eighth grader Rachel Flores; and
• John F. Kennedy eighth grader Luisa Trapaga.

Each of the winning students will receive a $100 gift card to a store of her choice, from First Community Bank of Plainfield. The designs will soon be turned into signs and installed by workers with the Village of Plainfield.
