Heritage Grove & Ira Jones student artwork on display at Plainfield Library

Select artwork by Ira Jones and Heritage Grove Middle School students are now on display at the Plainfield Public Library, 705 North Illinois Street, Plainfield.

The "Red House Art Showcase" is an annual event illustrating the talents of some of the District 202 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who attend schools assigned to the district's "Red House."

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, from 5-6:30 p.m., art teachers from Ira Jones and Heritage Grove will hold a reception on the lower level of the library.

More than 140 pieces of artwork are on display in the library's main entrance display case and on the lower level. The art showcase will run through May 21, 2010. It is free and open to the public.

The student drawings, paintings, prints, paper sculptures and ceramic works were selected by art teachers at both of the middle schools at the end of each quarter.

"Each teacher has a limit to the number of pieces on display," Ira Jones art teacher Judy Erwin said. "So it is about 10 percent of the students who have work on display, it is truly an honor to have work in the show."

All student artists who have work in the showcase will receive a certificate for their accomplishment.

"We are delighted to have our work at the public library," Erwin said. "It allows the public to see the awesome talent in our young people."
