Drauden Point Dean named school's new assistant principal

Drauden Point Middle School Dean of Students Amy Kuna will return to the school with a new title this fall.

The District 202 Board of Education at its regular meeting Monday approved naming Kuna the new assistant principal of Drauden Point. She will take over for Dean Kariotakis, who is the new principal at Timber Ridge Middle School.

Kuna started her teaching career in 1999 as a Social Studies teacher at Heritage Grove Middle School. She taught 7th grade geography and 8th grade U.S. History for six years before moving to Plainfield High School-Central Campus, where Kuna taught American Studies for two years.

In 2007, Kuna became the Director of the Learning Lab at John F. Kennedy Middle School. She worked in that capacity for a year before taking the Dean position at Drauden Point.

"Amy has done a wonderful job as our Dean of Students over the past two years, and we feel she will continue to help Drauden Point be a better place for our students to learn," Drauden Point Principal Pat Flynn said.

"To me, becoming assistant principal is the best natural step in my career," Kuna said. "I love working with the staff, students and parents in our Drauden Point community."

"I have a sense of the needs and wants of our community, and plan to do whatever it takes to continue to provide an excellent school experience for everyone," she added.

"Amy takes pride in all she does," Flynn said. "She has set the bar high and challenges all of us to make Drauden Point the best middle school there is for our students."
