Freedom principal inducted into alma mater's Hall of Fame

Freedom Elementary School Principal Curtis Hudson received an award this week that truly made his family proud.

Hudson, the second of three children, was inducted into the East Aurora High School Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 16, 2008, during halftime of a boys basketball game. His older sister, Camilla, and younger brother, Craig, have both also received the same honor.

Standing on the court brought back memories for Hudson, who graduated in 1983. He was the starting center on the basketball team, ran the 4x1 and the 4x2 relays and threw discus on the track team. Hudson was also named "Male Athlete of the Year" his senior year.

"I remember my 15 minutes of fame. We were playing a basketball game for the championship against a state-ranked team. As the buzzer went off, I shot the ball and made it, winning the game," Hudson said. "I will always have that moment in my mind."

His statistics and photo now hang on the same wall with those of his brother and sister. They also were named athletes of the year during their senior years at East Aurora.

"For me, it was exciting," Hudson said. "All three of us have had this opportunity, and that's the coolest."
