Education Partners - October 23, 2009

District 202 Education Partners, hello...

Here's hoping you don't squish too many worms this weekend with all the rain...

Speaking of the rain, we have a "deluge" of news and photos this week, and a lot of important information:
  • The Board of Education will meet in regular session Monday, October 26, 2009 at the district administrative center, 15732 Howard Street, Plainfield. The public part of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. The full agenda will be posted today on the district web site (www.psd202.org) under "Board Docs."
  • The media has reported stories about a possible strike among First Student bus drivers that may affect neighboring districts. District 202 will not be impacted by any such strike. Click here for more information: http://www.psd202.org/Documents/firststudentstrike.pdf
  • We've added several new items to our H1N1 Virus Information page from the Will County Health Department. Please continue to check this page regularly for new information as we continue to work together to prevent the spread of all influenza, including H1N1.
  • Kudos and congratulations to Plainfield East High School's varsity football team, which won its first game last Friday, October 16, 2009 over Oswego East.
  • Speaking of football, kudos to Plainfield North High School, whose varsity team has qualified for state for the first time in the school's history. And, best luck to Plainfield High School-Central Campus, as they play tonight for a possible state berth, too.
  • Congratulations to PNHS girls tennis player Jackie Altansarnai, and PHSCC girls tennis player Ali Foster, who both qualified for state competition this weekend. Both athletes won their first two matches, and lost their third round matches.
  • Kudos to the Grand Prairie Elementary School Student Council for raising $289 for the Peter Claver Center in Joliet. The money was raised through a taffy apple sale on October 15, 2009 as part of Make A Difference Day. The students sold 768 apples.
  • All four District 202 high schools will host programs this winter for current eighth grade students to help ease their transition into high school. Please click here for more information: http://news.psd202.org/news/display.php?newsitem=1327
  • Kudos to Plainfield South High School pep band which will perform at the 2009 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Girls State Volleyball Tournament at Illinois State University on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
  • District 202 sophomores, juniors and seniors and parents are invited to learn more about post-high school college and career planning at a special Career Literacy Seminar hosted by the Plainfield South High School Student Services department on October 27, 2009. Wesmere Explorer Museum

Fifth grade students in Tracy Kazmierczak’s class hosted an "Explorer Museum" on Friday, October 23, 2009. Here two fifth graders- dressed as Teddy Roosevelt and Leif Eriksson- explain why they are famous to a fourth grade student.

The fifth grade students conducted research and wrote a paper on an early explorer. In their papers, the students had to explain the early life of the explorer, the exploration that made him or her famous, and the important contributions they made as a result of the exploration.
