Education Partners Newsletter

Education Partners - December 23, 2009

District 202 Education Partners, hello...

Our students may be on winter break, but the District 202 news never stops...First, a few important notes:

  • Kudos and congratulations to the 163 District 202 high school seniors who have been named 2010-2011 Illinois State Scholars. The 163 is nine percent more students than last year, so this is a significant accomplishment both for the students, and for our district. http://news.psd202.org/news/display.php?newsitem=1410
  • Here is Dr. Harper's community column for December 2009. The superintendent shares more information about the ongoing work to eliminate our projected $16 million operating fund deficit.
  •  District 202 will host a series of discussions aimed at improving the relationships between teenagers and their parents. All District 202 parents, especially those with children in seventh through twelfth grades, are invited to attend the "Systematic Training for Effective Parenting of Teens" (STEP/Teen) program to learn effective parenting strategies. The first discussion session will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Plainfield High School-Central Campus, 24120 West Fort Beggs Drive, Plainfield. • Our students, staff and families continue to do wonderful things for the less-fortunate in our community. There are many examples of District 202's kindness and spirit of service all year long. Several are included in today's news, below.

Eichelberger Planet Blastoff

First grade students at Elizabeth Eichelberger Elementary School made and wore special Space helmets on Thursday, December 17, 2009.

The students wore the helmets as they traveled between first grade classrooms to learn about the planets one last time, as they completed their "Sky" unit.

The students have studied all about the planets and even visited the Joliet Junior College (JJC) Planetarium as they studied the stars and other objects in the sky.
