District 202 Education Partners, hello...
It goes without saying that this has been one of the busiest, most significant weeks in District 202's recent history. Thanks to everyone for your patience, understanding and support.
As always, lots of news, photos and information this week, but first a few important points:
- Here are the Board of Education Meeting Notes for January 25, 2010.
- The Board also met in special session Thursday, January 28, 2010 to continue its discussion of the proposed budget deficit elimination plan. More than 400 people attended on a bitterly cold night to listen and share their thoughts. We posted a summary on the District Deficit Elimination Strategy page.
- Congratulations to the Plainfield South High School computer club on its 1st and 4th places finishes in the Expert Division of the Joliet Junior College Robotics Competition on January 22, 2009. First place was taken by Brian Amelio, Jorge Barrios, Michael Holler, and Alex Smith. Fourth place was taken by Ray Farias, Chase Rice, Wyatt Uitich, and Nick Ursem.
- Best luck to the PSHS boys bowling team which finished 2nd in the sectional and qualified for the State Tournament in O'Fallon this weekend.
- Many of our schools, students, staff and families are collecting money to help the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. We'll have totals next week, but from what we've seen so far, District 202 once again has much to be proud of.
- Congratulations to the District 202 high school art students from Plainfield High School-Central Campus, and Plainfield North and South high schools who took part in the prestigious Scholastic Art Competition and advanced to national judging in New York City. - Kudos as well to District 202 Sodexo general manager Eloise Sopka, who earned a Champion of Diversity Award for her leadership in the areas of diversity and inclusion, and for developing a strong relationship with the district. Click here: http://news.psd202.org/news/display.php?newsitem=1451
- The District 202 Next Step Team is hosting an informational night for families of students with special needs, to assist with their transition into adulthood. The "Adult Life: Accessing Services Parent Night" will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010, in the Plainfield South High School media center. The school is located at 7800 West Caton Farm Road, Plainfield. Click here: http://news.psd202.org/news/display.php?newsitem=1449

Charles Reed Black History Month
|
Students and staff members at Charles Reed Elementary School volunteered their time after school on Thursday, January 28, 2010, to help decorate the hallway display in honor of Black History Month in February.
The students copied famous quotes from well known African Americans in history and placed them on the wall next to a photo of the person that said it.
