District 202 Education Partners, hello, and Happy 2010!
Wow, what a busy, news-filled first week back from winter break! There are scads of stories, photos and information to share, but first, these important notes:
- The Board of Education will meet in regular session Monday, January 11, 2010 at Ridge Elementary School, 1900 Caton Ridge Drive, Plainfield. The public part of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. The full agenda will be posted later today on the district web site (www.psd202.org) under "Board Docs."
- This month, the Jon Balke Student Art Gallery is proud to feature works from students at Eichelberger and Wesmere elementary schools, Ira Jones and Timber Ridge middle schools, and Plainfield East High School. As always, our students' talents are amazing. Please stop by the district administrative center, 15732 Howard Street, Plainfield, to see this great display.
- Best luck to the John F. Kennedy Middle School cheerleading squad, which will make school history by competing in its first cheerleading invitational at the Shepard High School in Palos Heights on Sunday, January 10, 2010.
- Kudos to the Plainfield South High School Boys Bowling Team, which set a state record for Top Team Series with a 3,460, versus Oswego East on January 4, 2010. The individual scores included: Kyle Heywood 743; Brandyn Andelbradt 714; Calvin Hendrickson 690; Bryan Tomac 685; and Will Eklove 628.
- Creekside Elementary School's "Warmth for Winter" campaign provided winter clothing to 208 students at four District 202 elementary schools. Congratulations and kudos to everyone involved in this thoughtful - and timely - effort.
- Acclaimed author Luis Urrea will talk about and sign copies of his book, "Into the Beautiful North" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Joliet Public Library Black Road branch, 3395 Black Road Joliet. This free event is the next in a growing list of special programs this winter and early spring supporting the 2009-2010 Great Read community literacy program.
