Education Partners - July 31, 2009

District 202 Education Partners, hello!

Like a bad penny, I just keep returning...Enjoyed vacation, and it's nice to be back at work for our great school district. And speaking of work, the District 202 news never stops...First, a few important notes:

  • The single news story this week is about how the state funding cuts will impact District 202. Right now, we know we're losing about $1.6 million in state grants. But the numbers have been changing all spring and summer. It is very important for our community to understand that the 2009-2010 school year will again be difficult for us, financially. Along with the cuts in state funding, the larger economy continues to hit our community very hard. Please be prepared for the possibility that the district may have to make some tough decisions this year. This is not meant to be a scare tactic or a threat of any kind. Rather wanted to communicate early, openly, honestly and proactively about what might come.
  • On a much happier note, kudos to Plainfield High School -- Central Campus's Brigid Hanley for being named the area's top female athlete as part of the fifth annual The Enterprise Athletic Awards. The honors were given recently by The Enterprise newspaper. Also honored were: Plainfield North High School's Andrew Starks, as top male athlete; and PNHS football coach Nick DiForte, as top coach. PNHS also took The Enterprise Cup as the district's top high school in head-to-head competitions.
  • Congratulations as well to District 202 web master Ryan Boyce for winning three awards from the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (InSpra) for his work on the district web site, "The Core" newsletter, and two specialty brochures produced last school year.
Finally...

The new school year starts August 25. Please make sure your children are properly registered and all required health and physical records are on file, so that the new year starts smoothly as possible for you, your child and the district.

Have a great weekend.
