Education Partners - August 21, 2009

District 202 Education Partners, hello...

Here it is, the weekend before the start of the new school year. Our very best wishes for success and a great school year to all of our students, staff members and families! It continues to be a busy summer, and we have our usual smattering of news and pictures. But first, a few important notes:
  • The Board of Education will meet in regular session next Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the district administration center, 15732 Howard Street, Plainfield. The public portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. The full agenda will be posted later today on the District 202 web site (www.psd202.org) under "Board Docs."
  • Please remember to continue checking the 2009-10 Bus Runs posted on the front page of the district web site. As we said a couple weeks ago, this document can and will change through the first few days of school, because of ongoing enrollment and growth. It has already been updated twice this week.
  • Kudos to Indian Trail Middle School teacher Madonna Marks Davis, whose documentary, "The Lively Family Massacre," has been nominated for an Emmy award. The documentary traces the family legend of Southern Illinois resident Pam Frazer, who was among the first white settlers to arrive in Southern Illinois in 1813.
  • A very important reminder to our families to update your home computer's favorites to reflect the new and improved District 202 web site and email address (psd202.org). Specifically, please remember to update your home link for the Parent Web Module.  If you bookmarked the Parent Web Module as a favorite with the old address, an error message will be displayed when you try to call it up. Please visit the district web site, click on "Parents and Students" then on "Parent Web Module," then on "How to Access," and finally on "Click Here to Log In". Once the Parent Web Module appears, save this new version in your Favorites.
  • We continue to work with our printer to figure out what caused some elementary classroom assignment postcards to reflect wrong information. We again what to apologize for the inconvenience this situation caused our families and thank you for your patience. We're already working on plans for a new method to share this important information next year.
  • Mark your calendars! Dr. Harper will host four Community Coffees with the Superintendent this school year. The first is slated for Saturday, September 26, 2009. All four will be held at the district administration center, 15732 Howard Street, Plainfield, from 8:30-10 a.m.

Finally...

We are very proud and excited to announce that we've implemented our new "Virtual Backpack" online system for distributing fliers from outside organizations to our students and staff. Click here: http://www.psd202.org/vbackpack.htm

This new system will save everyone involved in this process a tremendous amount of time, money and work - not to mention paper! It is fair to estimate that last year, approved organizations copied and distributed several hundred thousands pieces of paper to our schools. In turn, our staff sorted and stuffed those materials into students' backpacks and take home folders. Starting next week, each Friday's Education Partners will include a note indicating that week's new postings, like we do for photos. Thanks to web master Ryan Boyce for making this great idea a reality.

Have a great weekend,
