District 202 Education Partners, hello...
Two weeks down, nine months to go. Hope your 2009-2010 has started well.
We have our usual assortment of news and photos, but first a few very important notes:
- As you probably know, President Obama plans to speak directly to students next Tuesday morning, to welcome them back to school and encourage them to do their best and value their education. The speech has created a lot of controversy. We have posted a letter from Dr. Harper on the front page of the district web site outlining District 202's Plan for President Obama's Speech to Students.
- Remember that District 202 student artists and performers will be featured in tomorrow's "Art in the Park" fine art show at the Village Green Park in downtown Plainfield September 5, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This great event is presented by the Plainfield Art League. Stop by and enjoy great art and musical performances by our students.
- We have posted a new link on the district web site called "District Parent Groups" with individual web pages for the four district-level parent organizations: special education, gifted, the diversity equity action team, and the bilingual parents advisory committee. Each of these sites will provide a wealth of general interest information to our families. The page is posted under "Parents and Students." Click here: http://www.psd202.org/dist202/parent_groups.htm
- Gi-normous kudos to Lincoln Elementary School lunch supervisor Abigail Carter, who saved a student this week from choking. More information to follow next week.
- Congratulations to Bonnie McBeth Learning Center teacher Linda Merdian, who is this year's recipient of the Bonnie McBeth early learning scholarship. Merdian will use the $1,500 scholarship to continue her studies in early childhood education. More information will follow next week.
- Kudos to Creekside Elementary School Reading Recovery teacher Michelle O'Shea who qualified for national registration as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader.
- All four District 202 high schools will host the 6th annual "Yellow Ribbon Run" suicide prevention event at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the Hammel Woods Crumby Pavilion. The public is invited and encouraged to participate. The entry fee for each adult is $12 and $8 for each student (elementary age and older). See the item below for more information
